Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Advanced Business Management classes at Huntingtown High School, In Calvert County. It was a great bunch of kids, most of them are planning to study Business Management in college. They asked good questions.
Parental involvement and public support are the most consistent predictors of a child’s academic achievement and social adjustment. I would like to encourage more parental and community involvement in our schools. Parents can be encouraged and empowered. Parents whose own education opportunities were limited, will need tools like knowledge and encouragement. Community Schools are a good way to increase parental involvement. Let’s provide parents with long commutes and long work hours with some concrete activities to do with their kids. Help to get beyond, “How was school today?”
